New Suzuki Swift will be launched in the end of 2010
Now with a model life of 6 years, the model is due for a makeover and will be launched late next year at the Paris Auto Show. It will go on sale in the UK by end of 2010.
The new Suzuki Swift will come in a range of 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6L petrol engines. Indian model is currently powered by 1.3l G13B engine which will be replaced by 1.2l K series of the Maruti Ritz version.
Suzuki has capacity of 20 km on battery power., hybrid model will be available only by late 2011 or early 2012. The new Suzuki Swift from the looks seems a lot bigger and spacious. In India, the model still remains the best seller in MSIL product portfolio. Volkswagen Polo and Chevrolet Beat are the upcoming cars in India.
What You'll Drive in 2010
Recession? Really? When?
With every automotive manufacturer posting record sales figures, you wouldn't believe that just 12 months ago they were buckling over from the proverbial kick in the gonads. Today they are falling over themselves to add fresh capacities and churn out more cars for the insatiable Indian car buyer.
The Auto Expo in January will give the clearest indication yet of how big India is set to be on the world's automotive map. In fact, the Auto Expo is set to rival some of the glitziest auto shows for size and scale, dwarfing the likes of the Tokyo Motor Show and setting the tone for 2010: a year that's expected to be the best ever as far as the Indian automotive story is concerned. So what will we be driving in 2010?
Tata Motors, too, will bring in the IndiCruz. However, before that there will be an upgrade to the breathtakingly underdeveloped Sumo Grande that, hopefully, will address issues of quality and styling.
Of greater significance is the emergence of the compact-MPV. VW, Toyota and Nissan will follow up on their hatchbacks with not just a sedan based on the same platform but also create a new segment, the C-MPV. Smaller than the Innova, but with three rows of seats, the C-MPV is suited to Indian needs (and families). In fact, the pioneer in this segment, Maruti--forgotten the Omni and Versa?--will also have a replacement for the Versa, with better styling and a diesel engine.

Maruti Developed Small Car
Maruti developed small car could be badged as VW-Suzuki in Europe
German automobile giant Volkswagen, which has picked up almost 20 per cent stake in Japanese car major Suzuki Motor Corporation, may source small cars from Maruti Suzuki (in which Suzuki has 54 per cent stake) for the European market and sell them under its own brand name.
While Suzuki has the technology for small and compact hatchbacks, Volkswagen (VW) will share its green expertise, which is being used to build hybrid cars, with Suzuki as part of the collaboration.
“Europe is shifting to compact and small cars due to rising petrol costs as well as concerns of climate change. Suzuki has the expertise to make small cars, Volkswagen does not. The German company has the expertise in environment friendly technology and has invested large sums. Combining the two will reduce cost of making new cars. Volkswagen, which has a stronger dealership network in Europe compared to Suzuki, could source small cars from India and sell them under its own brand name,” said R C Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki.
Bhargava added that there was scope for cooperation between the two in diesel engine technology. “Suzuki only has diesel engines of up to 1.3 litres for which it has a tie-up with Fiat. But Volkswagen has the technology for diesel engines above 1.3 litres, which could be shared with Suzuki.” He also did not rule out the possibility of the two collaborating in emerging markets other than India.
Maruti Suzuki has a similar outsourcing deal with Nissan to produce 50,000 A-Stars for the European market (sold as Pixo by Nissan). This deal will continue.
India is the second-largest producer and market for Suzuki, apart from its home base and, therefore, the India operations would play a key role in the tie-up with VW. Suzuki Motors has an installed capacity exceeding 2.5 million units globally. India contributes for 20 per cent of its revenues and over 32 per cent of its production capacity.
Experts said sharing of technology could be the key to the collaboration. Suzuki’s skill lies in making gasoline-powered compact engine in the range starting from as small as 660cc (about the same engine size that drives Tata’s Nano) to 1.6 litres, which drives mid-sized sedans like SX4.
Suzuki and VW would thus get the opportunity to tap into each other’s engine and vehicle technologies, which would allow them to consolidate in key emerging markets like India.
“It is a costly affair to develop technology afresh, which also consumes a lot of time, effort and risk of losing out on market share. This deal will allow both the companies to leap frog on uncommon glitches and improvise on areas where they were absent,” said Abdul Majeed, auto head, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
“VW’s presence in the Indian market is fairly at a nascent stage, while Maruti has over 25 years of experience. When you develop new cars, you need to tune them to the needs of the local market. Suzuki will bring about a number of such intangible resources that can greatly benefit VW operations in India,” he added.
VW is gearing up to make a big splash in India with the launch of the all new Polo, a sub-premium hatchback, in a few weeks. This would be for the first time in recent years that a multinational auto company would start manufacturing in India with a small car.
VW India executives declined comment saying that they were yet to get an official word from the parent company. When contacted, K K Swamy, Managing Director and VP, Volkswagen India, said, “It’s too early to comment right now.”
Currently VW sells four models in India — Beetle, Passat, Jetta and Touareg — in the price range of Rs 13-52 lakh. Only Passat and Jetta are assembled here (at group company Skoda’s Aurangabad plant), while Beetle and Touareg are imported. Up to September, VW has sold 955 cars in India.
Maruti Suzuki sold 13 models in the Indian market price ranging from Rs 2-18 lakh. It sold over 7.92 lakh cars last year. The company has two manufacturing facilities at Gurgaon and Manesar in Haryana with combined strength to make more than 1 million cars annually.

Global Car makers drive destination India in 2009
wheel with the growth zooming over 60 per cent towards
end of 2009, inducing global
car manufacturers to focus on the market here.
It is this crisis and the recession in the developed world that led many to believe that car sales will take a hit with jobs and credit becoming endangered, but but India became the destination as the year passed by with its flavour for big fuel saving small cars.
Convinced that the future lies in compact cars, global majors, including Ford, General Motors, Toyota and Renault- Nissan-Bajaj, unveiled plans to launch small cars in India.
With the world also moving towards small cars, the automakers didn't want to miss the chance of making India their base for exports.
Although sales were not expected to sizzle in the year following the global credit crisis, carmakers managed to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the that with over 61 per cent increase in sales in November.
Together, they sold 13,10,597 units from January-November 2009 in the domestic market as against 11,19,640 units in the same period a year ago, up 17.06 per cent.
While numerous new launches, including Ritz from Maruti Suzuki, Jazz from Honda and Grande Punto from Fiat, kept the sales counter ticking on the domestic front, some global events had implications for India too.
The Indian market watched with anxiety US-car major General Motors (GM) file for bankruptcy and later emerge as a slim new entity.
If it was Nano that hogged the limelight with its commercial launch, then US cult bike maker Harley Davidson was not far behind, managing to draw enough eyeballs when it announced entering India after years of negotiations with authorities.
Others that had their own moments of triumph, include car market leader Maruti Suzuki's rolling out its 80th lakh units in July; Hero Honda crossing monthly sales figure of four lakh units for the first time in August and Tata Motors turning profitable after surprise showing by JLR in second quarter.
In terms of price tags, 2009 would perhaps offer the widest range in the car segment starting from Nano's Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom) to Porsche's super-premium Panamera (up to Rs 2.05 crore) and Rolls Royce's Ghost tagged at Rs 2.5 crore.

Acer 17-inch, Intel dual-core laptop falls to $479
As 17-inch laptops go, it's a lot of laptop for the money, compared with higher-priced systems from vendors such as Hewlett-Packard. Big-screen, 17-inch-class laptops priced a couple of hundred dollars above the Acer typically offer slightly faster processors and higher-performance graphics. But for the average user, there's not much difference.
And what do you get for $479? The Acer Aspire AS7736Z-4809 comes with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, a dual-core Intel Pentium Processor T4300 (2.1GHz), 4GB of memory, a 320GB hard disk drive, 8X DVD double-layer optical drive, a Webcam, and a 17.3-inch LED display with 1600 x 900 resolution.
A 17-inch laptop with high-definition screen resolution and plenty of memory to run 64-bit Windows 7--that's nothing to sniff at.
Novatech X70 CA Pro review
Hidden behind the 1080p, 15.6inch screen and tres chic-let keyboard of the X70 CA Pro is one of Intel's 720QM processors. That chip has four individual Nehalem hearts beating in unison beneath its silicon surface, with Hyper Threading thrown in for octo-threading abilities.
The differences between this Clarks field chip and a desktop Core i7 sound fairly cosmetic. A slightly smaller 989 pin package reflects the specialist notebook design, and there's only 6MB of level-3 cache in this model, rather than the 8MB in the other processors, but these differences are fairly slight.
The most remarkable change is that the Thermal Design Power (TDP) rating is just 45W, compared to 130W for the desktop chip. Theoretically, this chip consumes just a third the power of the Nehalem’s we've seen so far.
That's impressive, but the bad news is that this particular laptop still tops out at around two and a half hours of usage, although that's likely to be because of the top-end GeForce 280M graphics chip to which the CPU is coupled.
At 3.3Kg it's not the lightest 15-inch laptop around
CES Preview 2010: Desktops and laptops
New Atom processors, new Netbooks
The star of the show will likely be Intel's new line of Atom processors for Netbooks. beforehand codenamed Pine Trail, these new CPUs will give the Netbooks platform a routine push, we hope, making these popular laptops even more ever-present. Currently, Netbooks are great for some tasks, but can be frustrating to use if you need them for all-around computing. Look for added graphics and HD video performance in particular.
On a related note, hardware manufacturers will continue to try to "upscale" Netbooks, by adding features such as discrete graphics, touch screens, and HD displays--all in an effort to move prices past the low-margin $299 mark. We'll see increased stratification in Netbooks--a category previously notable for its commodity nature

Laptop Coming In $99
Circuit City's featured notebook will be a rather bland but functional Compaq system that features a Celeron processor from Intel rather than processors from Advanced Micro Devices, and it will also come with an optical drive that burns both DVDs and CDs -- not just CDs like the rumored Wal-Mart laptop (and that's a huge upgrade). The circuit City laptop will also come with 512MB of memory, a 15.4-inch screen and a 60GB hard drive.
Is Circuit City poised to have the "official" lowest Black Friday holiday price on a new laptop computer? The retailer currently sells the Compaq notebook for $499 as of today, and says that the computer ordinarily lists for $680. In order to get to the $299 price, Circuit City gives consumers a $280 instant rebate at the store and a coupon for a $100 mail-in rebate ($680-$380=$299). Sign up for Vonage in two weeks and get another $200 off. Where will you shop?

Powerchip
Same Day Tuning - no removal of the ECU.
Powerchip's Performance Chip Tuning Software Upgrades result in a very noticeable increase in performance and acceleration, as well as better fuel economy and smoother throttle transitions.
In the old days the ignition coil(s) and distributor controlled engine ignition spark timing. Changes to the position of the distributor would result in changed ignition settings, and often was a good method of vehicle ‘tune-up’. The modern engine ignition is controlled through the ECU Software within a series of tables or maps. These maps give the engine any instructions required to operate, under all load and rev per minute points.
Similar to the older systems, advancing the point of ignition within a cylinder will result in increased horsepower and toque. It is important not to advance the timing beyond the capabilities of the fuel used, or else detonation can occur. Peak horsepower is achieved when ignition timing is set as close to the point of detonation as possible. This is the primary purpose for tuning the octane rating of each client, so that the software is set to the correct level of ignition advance for the gasoline used.
The end result of ignition advance changes is increased horsepower and torque, resulting in better acceleration. Some vehicles also result in a slight change in engine note, giving a more aggressive sound.
Fuel Mixtures
Most fuel injected vehicles also look to a set of tables or maps for information on fuel delivery. Often, the vehicle will access fuel and timing information simultaneously. Fuel settings are an area that Powerchip achieves excellent improvements in power and torque.
Since the introduction of strict emission laws in North America, vehicles are required to trim fuel in 2 different modes, known as Closed-loop and Open-loop. Closed-loop is designed for when the car is under constant part throttle openings or cruising. The fuel mixture setting for this mode is generally 14.7:1, or 14.7 parts of air to every 1 part of fuel.
When the throttle reaches certain positions (generally above 70% throttle opening), the vehicle switches to Open-loop operation. Most standard vehicles run overly rich in this mode, and correcting these mixtures can enhance performance. Generally, when in Open-loop, a vehicle will run between 9:1 and 11:1, with the optimal performance setting between 11:1 and 13:1.
As a side benefit, most Powerchip equipped vehicles will use less gasoline after install.
Part Throttle Tuning
Besides the gains achieved when under hard acceleration, with Wide Open Throttle, Powerchip spends a lot of time developing the part throttle fuel and timing curves. The result of this attention to detail is a smoother and easier to drive vehicle. The Powerchip equipped vehicle will respond instantly and effortlessly at any point in the rev range and at any throttle position.
Throttle Response
Since the introduction of drive-by-wire technology, vehicles look to a third series of tables or maps for information on throttle responsiveness. By changing the values contained in these tables, the vehicle becomes far livelier. The vehicle becomes easier to drive and responds to throttle inputs immediately. Rather than the vehicle having a slightly ‘flat’ feeling, the throttle response changes give the driver excellent feedback through the throttle pedal.
Raised Rev Limit
All engines are limited to the number of engine revolutions predetermined by the engine designer. This ‘rev limit’ is preset within the engine software code, and can be adjusted (up or down) to achieve higher maximum engine revolutions. Powerchip will raise the rev-limit to approximately 200-500rpm above standard. A raised rev limit is only available on certain vehicles.
Fuel economy and drivability
Powerchip will not increase fuel consumption dramatically – only when peak performance is demanded. Under normal conditions, fuel economy can actually improve. Powerchip retunes the engine management under all throttle positions, and will improve the power wherever available (rather than at full-throttle only). Smoothness and drivability are maintained and even enhanced.
Removed Top Speed Limit
Similar to the rev limit, the engine management system on certain vehicles is preset to not exceed certain speeds. Powerchip is able to modify the parameters relating to vehicle top speed, and raises the setting to come in above the natural top speed of the vehicle (according to power Vs drag co-efficient). By raising this value in the code, the vehicle is able to achieve its natural top speed.
Modified Turbo Boost Pressure
Boost pressure on late model vehicles is controlled within the engine management program on a set of tables, similarly to the ignition and fuel tables as discussed above. By changing the values inside these maps, the vehicle is instructed to run a higher level of boost pressure.
When a turbocharged vehicle runs higher levels of boost, performance is improved. It is important that when boost is raised, other programming for fuel and ignition is adjusted to suit.

KOMPAS.com - Modifikasi bergaya racing menuntut dual hal.
Tampilan keempat roda semakin menguatkan tampilan bernapaskan balap.
"Pernah saya coba, paling kencang 160 km/jam," ungkap Susi. Harap maklum, yang jajal wanita. Padahal, setelah mesin dioprek, tenaganya meningkat sampai 20 dk. (Andry)

Nissan MURANO
The Murano comes into its own in 2009.
The crossover features a new exterior and interior, more standard technology, and an improved driving experience thanks to a new platform - the new Altima's "D" architecture, to be exact.
What's more
All 2009 Muranos feature a VQ-series 3.5-liter DOHC V6 rated at 265 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque coupled to a CVT transmission with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC). 2009 Muranos are available in front-wheel drive or with an all-wheel drive system. The Murano comes standard with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with a Traction Control System (TCS).
The most striking visual element of the 2009 Murano is its new body, which Nissan says has been infused with a 'modern art' feel while still maintaining its distinctive DNA.
The new Murano design also includes an available dual panel power sliding glass moonroof and second row skylight. Other available features include a new foldaway cargo organizer, heated front and rear seats, power liftgate, rain-sensing front wipers and Rear View Monitor.
The Murano comes in three versions: the S, which has all the basic equipment; the SL with more style and fog lights, rear privacy glass, and 8-way power driver's seat; and the LE, the luxurious model with 20 inch wheels, Xenon headlights, and Bose audio system. Customers can also have mood lighting and memory seating with two programmed seating arrangements for the driver's seat. In the trunk, power-up seats fold down for more space and then move up again at the touch of a lever.
